My grandfather, Diedrich Lammers, didn't talk about Germany or his family. I knew he had siblings, but I wasn't curious -- until I was grown. 

In 1989, my mother died. Imagine my surprise to find this picture in her belongings. At first, I thought it was my grandfather. Then I realized it must be his brother.

One night in 1998, Bruce Lammers called me from New Ulm, MN. He said he was researching the Lammers family, and that he found me through cemetary records. I'm not dead, but it worked anyway. Bruce said he was Heinrich's grandson, and wanted to know more information about my grandfather, Diedrich, and their background in Germany.

This  is the reverse side of the photograph. It says, "Taken at our place on July 1947 two years before he passed away."

I did not know who the writer was, or what place it was. Bruce Lammers tells me that it is his parent's place. He thinks the handwriting is Emma's.
